When should a property have UV water treatment?

UV is commonly used where microbiological safety is a concern, particularly with private water supplies such as rainwater, creek-fed or some rural systems.

UV is a disinfection stage

UV does not remove sediment, hardness or chemicals. Its job is different: it disinfects water as it passes through the chamber.

Pre-filtration matters

Water reaching the UV should be suitably clear. Sediment and turbidity can interfere with effective UV treatment, which is why filtration is normally placed before the UV unit.

Maintenance is part of the system

UV lamps and associated components need scheduled servicing. A system should be installed so that cartridges and lamps can be accessed and maintained properly.
